"Historian of the Year" Award - January 2013

 

Local Resident Wins Award

 

On January 15, 2013, local Stone Island resident Sandy Walters was presented with the “Historian of the Year” award by the West Volusia Historical Society. Sandy is the author of The Story of Thornby: How Ordinary People Took on Government, which describes her research into the history of Enterprise and the local struggle

to keep the Thornby property located on Providence Boulevard from being turned into a condominium development. The area now includes Thornby Park and the area’s only handicapped- accessible playground.
